Description
Set within a gently sloping Cretan landscape, this residential development comprises two identical two-storey villas, conceived as a harmonious ensemble that blends contemporary living with the timeless character of the local architectural heritage. Carefully positioned within the terrain, the buildings form a balanced composition that respects both the natural topography and the existing olive groves, creating a seamless dialogue between architecture and landscape.
Each residence unfolds over two levels, organized to offer comfort, privacy, and fluid spatial transitions. The ground floor hosts generous living areas that open outward toward shaded terraces and outdoor lounges, allowing interior life to extend naturally into the surrounding landscape. Upper levels accommodate private sleeping quarters, enriched by outdoor terraces that frame views toward the horizon and reinforce the connection between interior space and nature.
The project draws inspiration from traditional Mediterranean forms, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. The volumes are articulated through a careful interplay of flat and mono-pitched roofs, a compositional strategy that softens the massing while enhancing environmental performance. The inclined roofs, clad in clay tiles, echo vernacular construction while enabling passive solar gain and the discreet integration of renewable energy systems. Their orientation and form contribute both to climatic efficiency and to the sculptural character of the buildings.
Materiality plays a key role in anchoring the project within its context. Earth-toned plaster surfaces and stone masonry reference the local building tradition, while subtle variations in texture and depth give the façades a refined yet understated expression. Openings are carefully positioned to optimize natural light, ventilation, and views, while maintaining privacy and thermal comfort throughout the year.
Outdoor spaces are conceived as extensions of the living environment. Each residence features landscaped terraces, shaded seating areas, and a private swimming pool integrated seamlessly into the terrain. The existing olive trees are preserved and incorporated into the overall design, reinforcing a sense of continuity with the landscape and enhancing the project’s ecological character.
Overall, the project embodies a balanced synthesis of contemporary architectural expression and regional identity. Through thoughtful spatial organization, climate-responsive design, and sensitive integration into its natural setting, it offers a refined living experience that respects both place and tradition while meeting the expectations of modern hospitality living.
