Description

Set within the Cretan landscape, this residential ensemble reinterprets local architectural traditions through a contemporary lens, creating a refined dialogue between built form, nature, and light. The composition consists of three independent volumes, carefully arranged to form a cohesive yet discreet architectural presence, allowing each residence to enjoy privacy while remaining part of a unified whole.

The design draws inspiration from the vernacular architecture of the region, translating its essential principles into a modern architectural language. Solid, stone-clad volumes anchor the buildings to the terrain, while softer plastered surfaces and clean geometries provide balance and warmth. The interplay between pitched and flat roofs defines the composition, with the sloped forms subtly referencing traditional construction, while flat roof elements reinforce the project’s contemporary character.

The main residence is articulated around generous, light-filled living spaces that open naturally toward the outdoors, creating a seamless transition between interior and exterior living. The remaining two residences are slightly recessed into the landscape, enhancing the sense of privacy and reinforcing the natural topography. Each unit is conceived as a self-contained retreat, offering comfort, clarity of layout, and an intimate relationship with its surroundings.

Outdoor spaces are an integral part of the architectural experience. A central pool area acts as a shared focal point, complemented by shaded seating areas, landscaped gardens, and carefully curated outdoor zones for rest and social interaction. The existing vegetation is preserved and enhanced, strengthening the connection between architecture and landscape and reinforcing a sense of place.

Sustainability is embedded in the project’s philosophy. The orientation of the buildings, the thoughtful placement of openings, and the integration of renewable energy systems contribute to passive environmental performance while maintaining the visual integrity of the architecture. The result is a balanced composition where contemporary living harmoniously coexists with local identity, climate, and landscape.
